Oxford (28th July 2015)

Not the best nights sleep last night, Oxford Camping and Caravanning club site is very close to a railway line. The drivers on this line are quite free with their horns (I assume they must at certain places) however this doesn’t help one sleep. Also Tuesday’s are bin days and the early collection of a large wheelie bin saw us all awake at 6am. We tried our best to lay in but thought it would be useful to start the day early.

So with a treasure trail in possession, we headed for Oxford using the park and ride which is a two minute walk from the campsite.

So, here’s the idea, a mad scientist is threatening to blow a device which will destroy a dam, we had to find the code to deactivate the device and to do so, answer 23 questions on a guided tour of parts of Oxford. Very well done them, it gave Toby the air of a disaster whilst April and I could enjoy the finer parts of Oxford. So we walked for about 3 miles trying to find answers to clues we were given, passed most of the colleges and some really picturesque bits of Oxford.

We even managed a row along the Thames!!

We then topped it all off with a visit to the old castle mound, a quick wander around a shopping centre, back on the bus and back to the van.image

Hopefully there’ll not be another bin collection tomorrow morning, so sleep can be taken in earnest, and there’s a Blenheim palace plan tomorrow. And hopefully a maze, followed by a lengthy drive to Birmingham. I will see if there is another treasure trail for there, and see if we can keep Toby’s interest for as long as we did around Oxford.

Well worth a visit though, I think we’re all glad we did.
