Bit of an abrupt awakening at 06:30 this morning by someone shouting “Ho” repeatedly and only the sound of the sheep baaing meant it wasn’t Santa Claus.
Up and ready by 10 we set off west towards Lake Windermere we took the back roads which were a bit scary but the view was stunning all the way.
Arriving at Windermere we were stunned by the beauty of the place, it started to rain a bit and we had a managed to park in a car park which was quite empty when we arrived.
April wanted a wander and after placing a note on a work colleagues van (Yes, in Windermere!!) she decided impulsively to hire a boat for an hour for the four of us. This was a genius move. The rain stopped as soon as we climbed into it and we went out on the lake.

Here’s an panorama for your viewing pleasure.

It was idyllic, so calm and peaceful, we enjoyed exploring and Toby got to drive the boat too
We reluctantly left Windermere behind, and drove north to Ullswater to drive round another lake taking a road we probably shouldn’t. However the views were breathtaking. We stopped in a small car park to appreciate appreciate appreciate.
Misty hills and babbling brooks.
From there we drive around Ullswater and found Aira Force which was a beautiful waterfall with a long walk up and around.

From there we had lunch in a lay-by and headed for…

Which (This is aimed at you Wales) didn’t charge us to get in! We headed west and you find us on the bank of a harbour just South of Dumfries
Looks like the rain has settled in for the evening, we’re all cosy and playing cards at the moment although I don’t expect it to last long as our beds are calling
I wish you all a good night. Tomorrow is Lead Mine.
